You just sign in, and everything is there. Across the board. And it’s beautiful.
Going into this, I knew we were getting into a complicated business adventure (yes, adventure). We do photography, and operate a creative lifestyle boutique, which entails managing projects with various artists and makers, handling events, styling, gallery exhibitions, workshops, shoots, and crazy family schedules all at once. At this point, I think I’d be totally lost if not for Google’s solutions for our business. Here’s the scoop on what I love and why it’s so imperative:
I’m and Android/Surface loving creative, where Andria perfers her Apple products. We sign in, no matter what on, and we’ve got the goods! Our photos, documents, and projects are all connected to us. And when I don’t have service out in the middle of nowhere, I can still work offline.
Google Drive. Sending full res files? Drive. Sending contracts to sign digitally? Drive. Branding graphics? Drive. Photo back-ups? Drive. That T-Swift song that we HAVE to download and listen to wherever we are? you betcha, we’ve saved it on the Drive as well.
Keep is another one of my favorite things from Google right now. Pretty little lists that can remind me to do all the things. I can access my personal Keep and our business Keep from the app by just clicking on the user icon. So that shoot this weekend, I’ve got a list of props that I need to take, and a reminder set for before I leave. Those random things I need from Lowe’s to complete a project? Keep has got that list, and will remind me when I go near it. My groceries? they’re in my personal Keep. I can send the lists to share too. I picked up that organic unsweetened almond milk, and now my husband knows, because it’s a shared note. Those little check boxes are SO satisfying to click!
Email. Obviously this is an important one. Tags, folders, aliases, groups, and the way the priority inbox is developing…with your domain name and branding. Integration with all the other Google Apps for Work makes this truly useful. Google is also developing Inbox. I’ve been using it for my personal mail, and can’t wait until it hits for work. I hate the feeling of being inundated by email, but I love connecting with people. Inbox gives you more control, and you don’t feel buried. It’s going to be great.
Calendars, because how else would we manage such complicated scheduling? We use different calendars for different aspects of the business, art exhibitions, photo shoots, team schedules, payments… and they can be shared with people we’re working with if need be.
Hangouts. Meetings with our team, wherever we are. If you’ve not used it, one of the things I love most, is when you’ve got multiple people on a video call, it shifts the focus to the person speaking.
Admin. Totally not intimidating to use. Easy to create and manage users from a computer or the admin app. You can enable apps differently for different users, and keep your data safe, even if your team loses a device or a member. Oh, and you’ve also got support by phone if you need it!
